Family visit visa extension important issues and solutions in 2025.
For many expats living in Saudi Arabia, bringing family members on a visit visa is an important priority. But the rules around family visit visas can be confusing and change often. Whether your family is already in Saudi Arabia or planning to come, here’s what you need to know to avoid problems, delays, and extra costs.
For Families Already in Saudi Arabia
If your family is in the Kingdom on a visit visa, your first option is to extend the visa through Absher, but only if all documents are valid. If the system allows it, go ahead and extend. However, if you run into any issues or the extension isn't possible, it’s best to send your family back before the visa expires to avoid fines or legal complications.
Another option is exit and re-entry—this is possible if all paperwork is valid. But again, if it’s not, the only solution is to make sure your family exits the country on time.
For Families Planning to Enter Saudi Arabia
If your family is outside Saudi Arabia and already has a valid stamped visa, they can travel without any issue. As long as the visa is active and the documents are correct, no additional requirements are needed.
However, there are travel restrictions for citizens of 14 countries, including Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh. People from these countries usually receive a single-entry visa only.
Important Notice:
When applying through MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), you won’t be able to choose between a single or multiple-entry visa. The system does not show visa type or duration. This decision is made by the Saudi government and the embassy, and you’ll only find out the result after the visa is issued.
Once the visa holder arrives in Saudi Arabia, you can extend the visa for one month after entry.
WARNING:
-
Avoid applying for a new stamped visa right now unless absolutely necessary. If you already have a valid visa, you’re fine—just don’t let it expire.
-
Never let your visa expire, even if your family returns home. An expired visa leads to fines and may require agent assistance, which can be expensive.
-
It’s crucial to keep the visa activated to avoid future complications.
